MMVS enables vets to provide detailed ultrasonography to patients under their care. Results are shared with the referring vet and a detailed report with relevant images and findings prepared.

A limited scan of the thorax and heart is included with all comprehensive scans at no additional cost. Targeted evaluations are offered at a reduced cost.

Services

  • A detailed examination of abdominal organs and peritoneal cavity including kidneys, urinary bladder, adrenal glands, liver, gallbladder, spleen, pancreas, gastrointestinal tract, internal reproductive organs and major abdominal lymph nodes.

A limited assessment of the chest cavity for presence of pleural fluid, consolidated lung tissue, pericardial fluid and a subjective assessment of the appearance of the heart, with more detailed assessment if considered relevant.

Up to three fine needle aspirates or diagnostic centesis samples are included.

  • Where a specific organ or system is in question, a targeted scan is offered at a reduced fee. Fine needle aspirate or centesis of one area is included. An additional fee applies to therapeutic centesis procedures. Examples of where this may apply include:

    • Basic echocardiography (suited to staging myxomatous mitral valve disease in dogs, identifying DCM in dogs and HCM phenotype in cats)*

    • Urinary tract sonography for cystitis cases and renal disease

    • Prostatomegaly investigation

    • Assessment and needle aspiration of consolidated peripheral lung tissue identified on X ray, or diagnostic/therapeutic centesis of a pleural effusion

    • Repeated, targeted scans of previously identified issues

    • Pregnancy diagnosis

    * Doppler studies not performed. For detailed echocardiography, diagnosis of pulmonary hypertension and for assessment of congenital murmurs, cardiologist referral is recommended.

  • A targeted scan of the gastrointestinal tract with the aim of answering the question: “Is there an obstruction?”

Suited to young, acutely vomiting patients, where there is not a likelihood of disease in other organs.

  • Drainage of pleural, pericardial or peritoneal effusions for a therapeutic purpose.

Performed in addition to a comprehensive or targeted scan.
